Mozilla showcases two dev firefox OS
smart phones
Mozilla has recently announced the
availability of two developer preview phones for its upcoming Firefox
OS platform. This sleek device is designed to get developers with
better acquainted OS facing and uphill battle against the dominant
iOS and Android platforms.
Firefox OS is highly based on Boot to
Gecko technology which is an open source platform which will run
HTML5 apps. It is intended to introduce budget Firefox OS Smart Phones in 2013. These are the first hardware for this platform.
These handsets have been developed by Geeksphone in partnership with
Telefonica offering two distinct flavors. This low-end Keon model
features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz S1 Cpu, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB of
storage, 3-megapixel camera, 1580 mAh battery with a 3.5-inch HVGA
multitouch display. This pack model sports a high powerful Snapdragon
S4 1.2 Ghz dual-core CPU with a larger 4.3-inch IPS display and 1800
mAh battery.
Delivering better optics in the form
of front-facing 2 mega-pixel and rear-facing 8 mega-pixel cameras.
Both the devices feature microSD card slot for expandable memory.
Both the models fall short of flagship
devices like iPhone which lacks in high-end features in LTE and NFC.
These handsets are solely for developers use and won't seems to
commercial release. Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms are
currently dominate the mobile space. It relies heavily on
developers to develop high-quality apps, that increases and augments
the functionality of their platforms. Mozilla understands that the
quality of a platform's application offerings which can be the
defining factor in its success. Hosting a series of App Days to aid
the developers in their efforts to build for the open source OS.
